You can see if the powerhead has been replaced or if it matches the number on the transom clamp.
It can be determined by following a code that differs based on the year range in which the motor was built. I know 79 for sure and none in 81. But I cannot remember the mix ratio. Find your engine to check out the exploded diagrams that will help find the parts you need. I would like to know year and fuel to oil mixture.
Could they be the serial number? I went to the boat place and they could not identify the year. When looking on the engine block, the model number is on a nickel-sized silver seal. The cap on the power head is all I have to go by but the number doesn't match anything Ive found. But looked like there had been a sticker on the port side of the transom bracket, just wore off i guess.

I think it is still a 1956. What color is it, green or silver? The fuel bowl looked like someone put jelly in it, but some carb and choke cleaner and all the passages cleaned out and looks fine. What should I do if the engine that I was going to buy is listed as stolen? As for value… it is a common motor for collectors that is non-functional. Can anyone help to clear this confusion up? Well, when someone is depositing vulgar phrases in them, they are. But I can not find a model number on it to save my life! I tried introduces but the model doesn't jive. Also, what type of 2 stroke oil is best for it? I've got a 6 horse Johnson Sea Horse outboard that is in shockingly good condition. Great engines basically a revamped 6hp and I own 2 of them. Fuel mix is officially 50:1, but most of my old salt wrench buddies say to run it with 24:1 due to sleeve bearings in critical points. The serial number on a Johnson outboard motor indicates the year that the engine was manufactured. Also the plug wires do come from under the flyhwheel. The serial number is also on top the flywheel.
